Signals from Nawaz positive, likely to improve ties: Indian PM

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said signals coming from Nawaz Sharif, chief of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), were positive and therefore likely to improve relations between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Singh said his government wanted cordial ties with Pakistan and hoped that all outstanding issues between the two countries could be resolved in a peaceful manner.
The Indian premier said his government stood by its pledge of resolving all issues involving Pakistan in a peaceful manner, adding that the same had also been expressed by Sharif.
Responding to a question, Singh said that when results of the May 11 elections were being announced, he had called Sharif to congratulate the latter over his party's success in the polls.
The Indian prime minister further said he had invited the PML-N chief to visit India and that Sharif had also invited him to Pakistan.
"I have an invitation to visit Pakistan from its government," Singh told reporters, adding that no final decision had yet been taken on the visit and neither had any dates been decided.
"However, we would surely want to have cordial ties with Pakistan in capacity of a neighbouring state," Singh said.

Nawaz should not go to India first ! Until Manmohan who was invited first visit Pakistan. otherwise there will be no normal relation between two country.Due to the no sincerity from the India side,just only talk.

India and Pakistan should sit together and discuss all outstanding issues. There will be provocateurs both within and without. But they must ignore them and find solutions. The common people of the two countries want cordial relations. It has been a long wait!

No need. Stay where you are and focus on your issues and let us work on ours. Also stop pretending that you are some kind of a super power which you certainly aren't. Case in point the latest Chinese incursion.

Sardar ji, you were quoted as saying "I have an invitation to visit Pakistan from its government," but Nawaz Sharif & Co are still not in the Government till writing of this Comment!

Indian Prime Minister' obsession with Pakistan is not shared by public, not even by his own party men. Why he is in such a rush, when India is facing so many challenges at home?

Based on last 65 years observation, I can say something that might be worth considering. No.1 India and Pakistan are almost at the point where they should agree to such conditions to settle the main issue which were never thought possible before. 2) This friendship between each other is not taking place the first time, but something always happens and we are thrown back to square one. 3) This time please keep in mind that no matter what happens at the border (which usually is the result of some army actions) should not send us back to square one. Also please remember that the attack on Bombay delayed this friendship form taking roots for many years. This time such chances should be ruthlessly eliminated.
Pakistan would develop and make progress by leaps and bounds the day we are at peace with our neighbor.

I second you Ajit . This is exactly how I and many like me feel in Pakistan. Its the thought like yours that keeps the hopes alive.However I would like to mention that I often read TOI and when I read derogative comments of people regarding ethnic biased and religious intolerance I lose hope. I feel that TOI should censor comments promoting ethnic divide and religious hatred. Very often TOI does this but most censored are the ones written from this side of the border. If TOI could strike a balance this could go a long way to promote harmony and keep the hate mongers out on both sides.

.. and what kind of country exactly Pakistan is where another country can fire drones every now and then, kill its citizens and its leaders and so called mighty army are unable to protect its citizens from drones. ... and on the border the Chinese have pulled back to the initial position.

Unrealistic and negatively oriented comments laced with typical Pakistan overcleverness. India is not a super power but a big country occupying very important place in global affairs today and happens to be your neigbhour. From US to Japan, from Europe to Russia, From South Africa to Middle east, countries are entering into dialogue with India to enhance their relationship with it. Even China has very strong economic and trade ties with India. I do not understand what consolation you are drawing from Chinese incursion. What was the result of that incursion ? Anyone who reads Dawn knows that Indian PM is by himself in his quest for dialogue and the reason is well known to everyone as to why the Composite dialogue was paused ? Pakistan with all its arrogance needs peace more than India.

my pakistani brother y u dont understand we dont call ourself super power country world saying we are upcoming super power country,what ever you do or tell about india but u cant change realty,guys do u have any knowlege india progresing in every sector(economy-we are 10 largest economy in world,,,business - we have world largest company group TATA,relience,and many more,,sport-F1 force India team,motogp mahindra racing,world super bike- mahi racing,we having world class railway system - metro trains in all india,soon india going to run bullet trains in india testing is going on with Swiss and japnies company )

Nawas Sharif is an intelligent, capable, matured leader. He is the only person from the available PM candidates who could have brought the peace, stability in the region. Even when he was a PM, he was not involved in Kargil incursion, this was the handi work of some of the unmatured minds who carried this misadventure. All Pakistanis are our brothers and we must extend our full co-operation in this process so that peace, prosperity comes to every pakistani and indian family. We should leave aside past and build a prosperous road for both of us. At the same time there is a necessity to control the extremist elements on both sides, and we should actively work to root out such elements.
