KARACHI, May 21: A vigilance team of Board of Intermediate Education (BIEK) officials on Tuesday caught 14 boys cheating during the ongoing annual exams of higher secondary school certification and appreciated a centre superintendent after they couldn’t find any evidence of cheating at her centre.

After catching some 11 boys cheating during the Botany Pre-Medical Paper-I at the Sirajuddaullah Government College No 1 in Federal B Area, the BIEK super vigilance team headed towards Riaz Government Girls College, Liaquatabad No 10. Additional Commissioner Rubina Asif and two female professors in the team thoroughly checked the examination rooms for some 40 minutes, but could not find any evidence of cheating at the college.

“The centre superintendent, Prof Najma Asif, didn’t go in with our team members as she didn’t want to get in their way. Later, when they couldn’t even find a single case of cheating at the college, which was notorious for cheating earlier, she smiled and said she wasn’t surprised,” said Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai. “She told us that she had come here in March with the resolve to bring change to this college and end cheating here once and for all. She said she knew we wouldn’t be able to find anyone cheating during the exams at her college as she checked every girl’s belongings herself before letting the team members in the examination halls,” he added.

“That was when we presented her with an appreciation letter. If we fire and suspend the invigilators who fail to do their job during the exams, we also recognise and appreciate the efforts of those who do their job and do it so well,” he said.

Meanwhile, BIEK officials were notified by Government Degree College, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 7, that they had three students having admit cards with the line ‘Change of Centre Allowed’ stamped on them.

The college wanted to verify if they were genuine. “All the three had Shahrah-i-Liaquat College as their centre but they said they had been allowed to give their paper at Govt Degree College. So on reaching there we checked their admit cards to find all kinds of strange stamps on them. We certainly hadn’t allowed the change of centre as we don’t do that,” the BIEK chairman provided.

“The boys have been reported to the Unfair Means Committee. They also missed their paper on Tuesday as they were at the wrong centre and couldn’t reach the one where they were supposed to be on time,” he explained.
