LAHORE: A session of the Punjab Assembly has been summoned for May 29 during which candidates successful in the May 11 polls will be administering their oath as members of the provincial assembly, television reports said.

A notification in this respect is expected to be issued within the next two days.

On the second day of the session, the assembly’s speaker and deputy speaker will be elected whereas on the session’s third day, the assembly will choose a chief minister for the province.

Secretary Punjab Assembly Maqsood Ahmed Malik told a private news outlet that calling the session within 21 days of the election was a constitutional requirement, which was why the session had to be called before June 1.

The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) is leading in the provincial assembly with a two-third majority and Shahbaz Sharif is likely to be elected to the position of chief minister for a third time.
