ATTOCK, May 13: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidate from NA-57, Malik Amin Aslam, on Monday filed a complaint before the Returning Officer (RO) against alleged irregularities in the May 11 elections.

The former state minister Mr Amin said there had been a deliberate attempt to slow down and delay the polling at various polling stations in Attock including the People’s Colony, Veterinary School, Haji Shah Village and Formali Village.

He said voters who had come out in a record turnout were forced to stand for hours in the humidity and heat so that they abandoned the polling process.

A number of complaints were made by the voters at the spot, but nothing was done.

The Presiding Officers (POs) at a number of polling stations had also refused to provide polling agents with the signed counterfoil copy of the final results, Mr Aslam said, adding that the results had been given on a plain piece of paper at a number of polling stations which was against the rules.

He said the compilation of the final results was non-transparent, as candidates were not allowed to observe the process and were told to stand outside the room.

“The final result was announced after more than 18 hours, an unreasonable delay considering NA-57 is a small constituency and in the last elections, the result was announced within a few hours,” Mr Aslam said.

He said he had been leading in the unofficial results, but when the results were announced by the respective RO, it was to the contrary.

“Results from all polling stations should be checked for the approved signatures of the polling agents, and other facts must also be examined,” he said.
