ISLAMABAD Malavan FC of Iran wound up their massive goal scoring ways with 11-0 walloping of the Sports Sciences team in the final of the 5th National Women Championship at Jinnah Stadium here on Tuesday.

The Iranians continued to click like a well oiled machine and churned the goals that saw them finish their four-match drill scoring 55 goals against their opponents.

In the final match, most part of the game was played within the sports sciences half, who showed a weak defence against Iranian women team.

'We played well and specially focused on short passes which helped us lift the title' Iran Dost, captain of the Iranian football team, told Dawn.

She said 'We are happy to lift the title in the very first appearance in a national competition in Pakistan.'

In front of a good crowd, the Iranian team never gave a single opportunity to Sports Sciences team to create a chance for scoring a goal.

PFF's women football chairperson Robina Irfan said 'the event is a step forward to promote women sports in Pakistan.'

Asked that the Iranian team had lifted the cup with a huge margin of goals, she said 'the tournament is meant to raise the professional level of the women players in Pakistan.'

APP adds Federal Minister for Sports, Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, was the chief guest at the final of the 13-team championship and distributed prizes. He presented the winners' trophy to the Iranian team, hailing from Bandar Anzali seasport, and gave away the best player's award to Mariam Irandost.

The outgoing champions Young Rising Stars of Rawalpindi finished third in the annual event this time.
