SHIKARPUR, March 27: The Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, on Wednesday urged criminals and outlaws to surrender themselves before the police, saying preparations for an extensive anti-bandit operation along the borders between Sindh and Balochistan were under way.

He said that the surrendering criminals would neither be implicated in further false cases nor would they be subjected to extra-judicial killings.

Expressing determination to maintain law and order in the province, Mr Shah said that the Sindh government was determined in this regard and concerted efforts were being made against terrorism and crime.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday night Mr Shah warned influential persons, including police officers against harbouring criminals, saying that lawlessness would not be tolerated.

The Sindh police chief assured the criminals, who chose to surrender, that they would only be challaned in genuine cases, already registered against them in the courts of law, enabling them to defend themselves.

Categorically denying any changes in the police policy, he said that nothing has been changed except implementation on the strategy formulated by the government under the Police Order 2002 i.e. segregation of the investigation and the watch and ward wings at the district level.

The IGP, Sindh, said that the DPO (investigation) has been directed to work under the DPO in two districts, Shikarpur and Sanghar, on an experimental basis.

He said that 100 pick-ups and 200 motorbikes had been provided to the police in the Sukkur Region, adding that 11 new police pick-ups and motorbikes had also been provided to the Shikarpur district police.

Mr Shah said that the dispute between the Mahar and Jatoi tribes had been settled with the help of local tribal chieftains and prominent people of the district and he expressed the hope that other tribal disputes would also be resolved soon.

He expressed his satisfaction over the law and order situation in Shikarpur district.

SUKKUR: Arrangements for launching an anti-bandit operation along the borders between Sindh and Balochistan were discussed in detail in a meeting in Guddu Rest house on Thursday.

Senior police officials of the Sukkur and Larkana division attended the meeting, which was presided over by the IG, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the law and order situation in the Jacobabad district, specially along the border areas, including Tangwani, Kandhkot, Kashmor and Thul.

The police officials from Jacobabad told the IGP regarding infiltration of outlaws from Balochistan, specially the Shahi Wah area, saying that they routinely fled towards Balochistan after operating in Sindh areas.

Thy also complained about inadequate equipment, saying that the check-points, established in the border areas, were poorly equipped.

They called for provision of better arms and equipments, including rocket launchers.

Meanwhile, the IG, Sindh, on Thursday visited the border area between Sindh and Balochistan along Kandhkot and Kashmor and also met with the police officials deployed at the check-points there.

Knowledgeable sources said that the IGP had ordered to seal the border area between Sindh and Balochistan, specially in the nighttime.

Officials were, they said, maintaining secrecy about the date and strategy of the anti-bandit operation.

They said that the IGP, Sindh, had told the participants of the meeting that he would talk to the Balochistan government officials, including the IGP, Balochistan, in this regard.
