ISLAMABAD, Feb 25: After an accident on Sunday night, in which an MNA's Land Cruiser collided with a van, the driver of the van, Shaukat Ali, died on Monday at Polyclinic. Several passengers were also wounded, including a seven-month-old who is in a critical condition due to a head injury. Police sources report that Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, a member of the National Assembly from the PML-N, left a five-star hotel near the Secretariat police station in his Land Cruiser. The collision, near Dhokery Chowk, flipped the van over onto its back; seven persons were transferred to the hospital. The duty officer at Secretariat, Maqsood, told Dawn that the police had not been able to locate the MNA. A call to Chaudhry's cell phone was answered by a man introducing himself as Ali, who confirmed the report of the accident but said the vehicle was being driven by Chaudhry's secretary, and that the MNA himself was not in the Land Cruiser at the time. On Monday, Chaudhry did not attend a scheduled meeting of the National Assembly's standing committee on cabinet secretariat. The chair of the committee, Hameedullah Jan Afridi, told participants that Chaudhry had cited "personal reasons" for his absence.
