LAHORE, Jan 23: Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood said on Wednesday his sons had to choose among the young leadership of different parties for their political career and he would like them to join hand with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

“My sons – MNA Mustafa, MPA Murtaza and Ali – have yet to formally join the PPP and they will announce their decision at an appropriate time,” he told reporters at the Governor’s House.

A source in the PPP told Dawn that the governor’s sons were to announce joining the PPP at a meeting with President Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto but former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani announced it at a public meeting in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday last.

About the creation of new provinces in Punjab, the governor said: “A separate south Punjab province is an age-old demand of the people of south Punjab and it should be materialised according to their aspirations. The people who are opposing it will face defeat in the coming general election.”

He said the new province would help better management of financial and administrative affairs.

“The difficulties and problems the people of these areas are facing today will be reduced,” he said, adding he was the first person who had raised voice for a separate province and presented a resolution in the Punjab Assembly. He said if political parties, including the PML-N, were willing for the creation of a separate province, there should not be any issue on it.
