JOHANNESBURG: Pakistan are losing ground on test rivals because they cannot host international teams owing to security concerns and accordingly play fewer test matches, captain Misbah-ul-Haq Misbah-ul-Haq said on Monday.

As his team prepared to take on the world's top-ranked test team South Africa in the three-test series starting in Johannesburg on Feb. 1, Misbah said Pakistan were at a disadvantage because of the “limitations”.

“As a team it is very difficult when you are not playing a format on a regular basis. You really have to work hard. But we have to adjust, you could say it is a limitation for us but we are professionals, we have to do well,” he told a news conference.

“We don't have home series and when you aren't playing at home then you miss a lot of cricket and you play only about five or six tests a year when other teams are playing 15 or 16 tests a year. It really does affect your team.”

Pakistan have not hosted a test-playing team since armed militants attacked the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009, killing eight Pakistanis and wounding six Sri Lankan players.

Their 'home' matches since then have been held at neutral venues, mostly in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, while Pakistan have not played a test series anywhere since July last year.

Misbah said that the success of the two-match series between a World XI and a Pakistani All Star team in October last year showed that Pakistan could safely host international matches.

“Pakistan is such a big cricketing nation and the world has to think about bringing international cricket back (to Pakistan).

“The T20 tournament in Pakistan saw full stadiums for every match. There were no (security) concerns. The people should have international cricket,” he said.

Misbah's words were echoed by Pakistan team manager Naveed Akram Cheema who said that the situation in Pakistan was a lot safer than outsiders perceived.

“Our people in Pakistan are being deprived of international cricket. There is a difference between perception and reality.

People don't come (to Pakistan) on the pretext of security concerns. But I can tell you that it is as safe as any country in the world,” he said.

Bangladesh were due to tour Pakistan this month but it was postponed for security reasons.

Misplaced anger. Fix your security problems, make your country a better place. Only then foreign teams would come to play cricket in Pakistan against talented Pakistani players.

I am from Karachi-Pakistan. I think we should not intermingle different issues. Well, first of all i, being a Pakistani, still unable to digest how the attackers were able to escape? why the police could reach to the location of the incidents? why the attackers are still free despite the footages of CCTV cameras? Basically, attack on Srilankan team was shameful and yes its evident that some external forces were involved in those attacks just to transfer World Cup event from Pakistan but we Pakistanis should highlight those hidden forces who have altogether destroyed Cricket and other sports in Pakistan. But credit goes to Pakistani players who are still performing extremely well

Pakistan is not a terrorist state but a nuclear power with a stretigic location on the south asian map. Infact terrorists from different corners are messing around to get it declared a fail and terrorist state. Taliban from Pakistan will always protect Pakistan but other elements poisoning each and every institution whether it is sports or business and they are successful to much extent. However, we as a nation have our flaws some leave a space for such consipiracies. Despite all this, we are producing many talented people from sports to business. This must be appreciated. We must learn to ignore people like Bansal and keep doing good for our country.... Pakistan will survive and Insahallah we have a very bright future........ dont loose hope......

Misbah appears a very reasonable man but please do not delude yourself and the public by stating that Pakistan is a safe place for cricket. The person responsible for the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka team is a free man since July 2011, who knows how many more attacks are there to come. There are terrorist attacks every single month in the country and it is actually a good thing that no team is coming to Pakistan because if any team comes and then there is an attack? Accept that Test cricket is not coming back to Pakistan any time soon and move on. The PCB should give more priority to Test matches instead of playing more ODI or T20, with UAE, Sri Lanka or even Australia or NZ as host countries for the Test series.

Honestly, we need to improve the security and the perception of the country. It is dark time for Pakistan cricket, but remember like any other calamity this is temporary, and once the situation gets better, remember which country tried helping Pakistan (only Sri Lanka), and which country tried to stab us ( mainly, Bangladesh and India), so treat them accordingly.

In response to Bansal's atrocious comments, it must be elaborated that even though we haven't been playing international cricket on our home soil, we've still got enough talent and enthusiam to go and beat teams at their own homes, with India being the latest victim. And whilst on the topic of terrorist states, never have we sent any of the foreign hockey/cricket players back home or changed their venues over threats from terrorist like/rogue elements. In that respect, India is no less than a terrorist state!

Do you want to say that on my face? Its easy to call others "names" when you're sitting on a keyboard behind a computer screen. Perhaps you will realize if every female left India to get away and save herself from a bunch of uncivilized horny a*s rapists.

I will be the first to admit that Pakistan has not been the safest country in world in the past few years. However, having said that Pakistan has really changed! I can see that every time I go and visit my family there. I literally see that positive change that is happening in that country. Is it safe enough to host a cricket match? I think it is. Pakistani's LOVE cricket like the British love their football or the American love their NFL... If their is a chance for Pakistan to host a cricket cup and have a good time you can bet your self that every Pakistani will want that to happen!

No Country interested in visiting a terrorist state like Pakistan. Sri Lankans tried and see what happened. So You all play with yourselves and beg other states to send their players . Well good lesson of being a terrorist state
