THIS is apropos of Mubashir Mahmood’s letters ‘Rising crime in Karachi’ (Dec 11). Only a few weeks ago, I was robbed at Boating Basin, Clifton, near an international bank. The robbers were confident and seemed as if they knew the police would not come for a while as it was a service lane having eateries. I went straight to the police station where they made me wait for one hour before giving me a blank piece of paper to write an application. Clearly the staff of the police station was least bothered and only to my dismay I found another person there who was robbed in the same area some 10 to 15 minutes before me. I have heard from neighbourhood that it is a favourite spot for these robbers. This shows that it is a hot spot which the police fail to realise. While I was about to leave the police station, a person came and made calls to some friends of his and was later welcomed warmly by the SHO while his report was lodged immediately. So what is new? This is an age old complaint of public at large against our police. Couple of weeks back I was visiting Karachi and an old class mate of mine told me that if you are not robbed or mugged in Karachi, at least once, you are not a resident of Karachi.

You made a mistake by going to the police station; you should have gone to the nearest post office, they might have helped you more. Police stations in Pakistan have nothing to do with crimes or criminals. :(
