THIS is with reference to the article ‘Cronysim - hit SLA of little service to Sindhi’ (Nov 25). The article is an eye - opener about the performance of the Sindhi Language Authority (SLA). It informs us that the function of the SLA has shrunk to just publishing books.

Hence, one is compelled to think as to why the institute built with the sole purpose of promoting and developing the Sindhi language could not come up to expectations.

All the chairmen of the SLA have been prominent writers, intellectuals and scholars who are loved and respected by all and sundry in society.

The construction of the SLA studio at a cost of Rs20 million with no proper use now is an unforgivable offence committed by the relevant SLA heads, because its construction must be funded from public - paid taxes.

Moreover, as confessed by some former SLA chairmen in the article, they could do nothing significant for the promotion and development of the Sindhi language except supporting it and writing letters to some institutions to make the teaching of the Sindhi language mandatory.

On the basis of information provided in the article, it apparently seems that the performance of the SLA as regards the promotion and development of the Sindhi language is a very sorry state of affairs.
