RAWALPINDI, Nov 9: The city district government has formed a committee to implement the Sexual Harassment Act 2010 to provide conducive working environment to women in all public sector departments.

The Punjab government took serious notice of the negligence of the city government in implementing the Act despite the passage of two years.

It asked the CDGR to send a report about the implementation within a week.

As a result, the city government formed the committee with the District Coordination Officer Saqib Zafar as its chairman and seven executive district officers as members.

The DCO also appointed deputy district officer social welfare Aamir Shahzad Shah as focal person of the committee.

After the formation of the committee, the focal person wrote letters to all the departments to earmark separate washrooms and prayer rooms for women.

Under the act, the district administration has also to establish daycare centres for women government officials where they would leave their children during working hours.

The administration has to display the code of conduct at prominent places of government departments to avoid sexual harassment.

“The DCO will also write letters to the police department, Rawalpindi Development Authority, town municipal administrations and forest department that are directly related to the provincial government to implement the Sexual Harassment Act and send compliance report to the committee as soon as possible,” said Mr Shahzad Shah while talking to Dawn.
