GUJRAT, Nov 8: Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira says General (retired) Aslam Beg should not talk of overstepping by any institution in the country as there is no chance of imposition of martial law.
Talking to newsmen after a mass wedding organized in village Kolian Habib, Kharian, some 50 kilometers away from here on Thursday, the minister said all institutions should work within their limits.
He said it had been established through the Supreme Court verdict in the Asghar Khan case that the agencies had deprived the people of their right to elect the government of their choice.
He said the best solution to the country’s problems in the present circumstances was that all the institutions should work within their domains. He said the government neither wanted to disturb the media nor would let any one to disturb the freedom of press. The minister questioned news stories aired and published after the statements of the army chief and CJP.
He said the situation required a sense of responsibility by every one for the sake of country.
He reiterated the government’s stance that the parliament was supreme and ruled out any delay in the next general elections
