KARACHI: Pakistan Test batsman Asad Shafiq stroked a brilliant unbeaten double century and Rameez Raja struck exactly 100 as Pakistan CC trounced Hamdam CC by a massive margin of 223 runs in the Mehdi Hasan Memorial KCCA Inter-club cricket tournament match at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium here on Thursday.
The 26-year-old right-hander helped himself to 214 not out as Pakistan CC, easily the best club side in the country, plundered the Hamdam CC bowling to all parts of the ground to amass 377-2 in their quota of 45 overs.
Opening the innings with discarded Pakistan international Rameez, Asad put on a rollicking partnership of 219 in 176 balls. Asad’s dazzling 142-ball knock was punctuated with 26 boundaries as well as three sixes, while Rameez hit six fours and three sixes during his 88-ball stay at the crease. Akbar-ur-Rehman also made a handy contribution of 46 that included six fours.
Hamdam CC’s batsmen, in reply, fell by the wayside as they crashed to 154 all out in the 43rd over as the one-sided result propelled Pakistan into the final rounds of the competition from Group ‘A’.
Meanwhile, Fazal-ur-Rehman beat Rafiq Shirazi Memorial CC by four wickets in another fixture played at the RLCA Ground in Gulberg.
After curtailing their opponents’ innings to 196-7, Fazal-ur-Rehman won by making 200-6 at the start of the 31st over with Ahmed Hussain (51 with six fours and two sixes) and Shahid Aslam (40 with six boundaries) playing good hands.
