RAWALPINDI, July 31: The Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs42,000, on 40 shopkeepers for encroaching on public space and seized 12 pushcarts from different areas.

The RTMA anti-encroachment staff visited Liaquat Road, Bara Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Road, Iqbal Road, Benazir Bhutto Road, Commercial Market, Muslim Town and Sadiqabad and removed the obstacles along the road.

The staff seized 12 pushcarts from Sadiqabad and Muslim Town. The staff also visited Tyre Bazaar at Chah Sultan, Dingi Khoi and Bagh Sardaran and took 100 tyres in their possession, to discourage their display on roads.

The display of tyres in open places is banned in districts, to avoid the accumulation of water and the spread of dengue virus.

The RTMA spokesman told Dawn that Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa took serious notice of the encroachment at Sadiqabad and Muslim Town, where the pushcart owners established their stalls on the main roads, creating hurdles and hampering the smooth flow of traffic.

He said that the administrator warned RTMA officials that he would take action against the anti-encroachment cell in town, if the officials failed to remove all the encroachments from the bazaars and markets during Ramazan.
