KARACHI, July 4: Two young men with visible torture marks on their bodies were found dead near the harbour on Wednesday, police said.
The police added that the bodies were spotted near the industrial units at Karachi harbour by some labourers.
“The bodies of the victims wearing shalwar kameez were recovered and shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi,” said an official at the Docks police station.
“A post-mortem examination showed that the victims, in their mid- or late-20s, had been strangled to death before their bodies were thrown into the sea,” he said, adding that they had been killed at least a day ago.
Later, the bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification, he said.
Shop owner shot dead
In Korangi, a shop owner was gunned down for resisting a mugging attempt, said police.
They added that Mohammad Sohail, 45, was at his cellphone accessories shop, situated near Nasir Jump in Korangi 3, when two armed men riding a motorbike pulled up there and tried to enter the shop.
“As Sohail resisted their entry, one of the armed men fired shots at him,” said an official at the Korangi Industrial Area police station.
“Sohail sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head and the riders sped away.”
Besides being employed at a private company, the victim had been running the business for the past five years, the official said, adding that he was an area resident.
Scrap dealer strangled
A 52-year-old scrap dealer was strangled inside his Surjani Town home, said police.
“His relatives approached the police with the information that Mohammad Sharif was found killed inside the home, while all his own family members were missing,” said an official at the Surjani Town police station.
“A post-mortem examination at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital showed that he was strangled to death at least 16 hours before his body was shifted to the health facility.”
He said the victim lived with his two young sons, a daughter and wife but all of them were missing.
“The murder seemed to be the result of a domestic dispute,” he added.
