HYDERABAD, Nov 11: The regional director, Aurat Foundation, Anees Haroon, has said that noted writer and poet Atiya Dawood is a revolutionary poet and there is a great depth in her poetry.

She was speaking here on Sunday at the launching ceremony of Atiya’s book Sindh ki aurat: sapne se sach tak (Sindhi woman: from dream to truth), organized by the Applied Social Research centre.

Professor Tanveer Junejo said that Atiya had studied the miseries of women very closely, which was mirrored in her writings. She said that a rural woman had to suffer more than an urban woman.

Amar Sindhu said that Atiya was a pioneer in the struggle for the rights of Sindhi women but she was no longer alone in her struggle.

Complaining of hurdles in her way created by the society, Atiya said that she braved opposition and criticism but was not prepared to give up struggle for the rights of women.

Others who spoke at the function included Dr Bakhtawar Jam, Najma Mallah and Irfana Mallah.
