KARACHI, Nov 4: The Pakistan Awami Tehrik has demanded holding of the scheduled general elections next year on the basis of proportional representation.

Speaking at the party workers’ convention here on Sunday, the PAT chief Dr Tahirul Quadri said that the fast changing world situation and thinking had necessitated formation of a political government in the country.

Urging the party workers to make preparations for the coming polls, he said his party wanted to turn Pakistan into a modern Islamic state.

Dr Quadri appreciated the government’s role in the war against terrorism, but said in view of the changing situation the US should stop bombing on Afghanistan before Ramazan.
