HARIPUR: Killer jailed for life

HARIPUR Dec 11: A district and sessions judge has awarded two times life imprisonment to an accused in a double murder case.

Abdul Rasheed alias Sheeda was arrested by on March 18, 2000, on charges of murdering Mohammad Nazakat and Ahmad Shah of Kot Najibullah.

On Saturday Judge Sahibzada Khurshid Khan awarded the life imprisonment and Rs40,000 as fine to Sheeda. In case of default the convict would have to undergo for another one year imprisonment.

Meanwhile, burglars broke into a house and made off with valuables worth thousands of rupees here on Friday night. Ms Khalida of Mohallah railway station told police that she was not home when some thieves entered her house and decamped with a colour TV, grocery items and suites worth thousands of rupees.

FAKE FERTILIZER: The Hattar police claimed to have seized fake fertilizer worth thousands of rupees in the Hattar Industrial Estate area here on Thursday.

Sources said acting on a tip off that some unscrupulous elements were trying to smuggle fake fertilizer to Punjab, a police party headed by DSP Khanpur Khurshid Khan was constituted to conduct snap checking of vehicles.

During its search campaign, the police party seized 200 bags of fake fertilizer from a truck (1706 C-Peshawar). The truck driver, however, managed to escape.

Samples of the fake fertilizer had been sent to laboratory for necessary tests, the sources said.

It may be recalled that a few months back the assistant coordinating officer of Haripur had sealed two Hattar-based private fertilizer factories on the charge of producing fake fertilizer and lodged cases against the owners.

LABOURER KILLED: A labourer was killed when he was buried under a huge mass of earth in village Aloli, some 12km from here on Thursday.

Quoting Khanum Jan, the father of the deceased, the Khalabat police said that Mohammad Shafiq, 32, was excavating earth for the under-construction house of a villager. During excavation, a big mass of earth fell on him, killing him on the spot. His two donkeys were also buried in the incident.

Later, bodies of the labourer and donkeys were recovered by the villagers.
