LARKANA, Feb 15: Newly appointed DIG of the Larkana range police Mohammad Ramzan Channa has said that all-out measures are being taken to restore law and order in the five districts of the range.

The newly restored range comprises Larkana, Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Kashmore districts which were earlier part of the Sukkur range of police. Talking to journalists here on Tuesday, the DIG said that the data of crimes and criminals was being computerized.

He said that the police stations and pickets set up in the 120-km-long strip along Sindh's border with Balochistan and Punjab had played a great role in reducing crime in the area.

Mr Channa said that the police pickets built in Shah Belo forest during a recent police operation would be retained for the time being. He said that the DPOs concerned had been directed to make efforts to resolve tribal disputes to restore law and order in the area.

BANDIT SURRENDERS: Khuda Bakhsh alias Khuddu Jalbani, the member of a gang of bandits operating in Larkana, Shahdadkot and Shikarpur districts, surrendered before police on Tuesday, according to DPO Larkana Dr Sain Rakhio Mirani.

He told journalists Jalbani was involved in kidnapping for ransom, murder, highway robbery, banditry and encounters with police. He said the surrender should encourage other criminals to surrender before police with the confidence that no excesses would be committed against them and they would be charged with only those crimes they had been involved in.

FLAG MARCH: A joint flag march of police and Rangers was held in the sensitive areas of Larkana city on Tuesday. Speaking at some places during the march, the DPO said that no one be allowed to take law into hand during Muharram and afterwards.

He said that prevalence of harmony between different sects was his priority and added that religious leaders of the Shias and Sunnis had promised to respect sentiments of each other.
