KARACHI: Three shot dead

KARACHI, May 25: Unidentified assailants shot dead an elderly man and injured his servant in Nazimabad on Saturday evening.

Police said armed men came to Agha Juice Shop in Nazimabad No 1, and opened fire on the shopowner, Haji Agha Abbas, aged 70, and escaped. The assailants fired from a TT pistol.

Agha Abbas and his servant Gul Zaman were injured. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Agha Abbas dead on arrival. Sources at the hospital said Agha Abbas suffered bullet wounds to his head and neck. His servant Gul Zaman suffered a bullet wound to his hand. He was out of danger.

Agha Abbas was the owner of the city’s oldest juice shop.

A senior police officer of Liaquatabad Town said: “The killing appears to be sectarian motivated. However, other aspects would be investigated only after which can a final opinion be formed.”

The Quaidabad police registered on Saturday a case against unknown assailants pertaining to firing on a religious procession on Friday night, in which one man was killed and four others were injured.

Police said the Sunni Tehrik took out a procession on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi in Majeed Colony, Quaidabad. Unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on the procession and escaped.

Five people were injured in the firing. They were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced Nabeel Qadri dead on arrival.

A young worker was shot dead in New Karachi on Saturday.

Police said Ghulam Ishaq, aged 28, worked in a factory in New Karachi Industrial Area. When he was on his way home unidentified men opened fire on him near Sajan Chowk in Sector 5-F and escaped. Ishaq suffered a bullet wound. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police described the killing resulting from personal enmity.
