KARACHI, Aug 4: Two men were killed in violent activities in parts of the city on Monday, witnesses and police said.

They said three people were injured, one of them fatally, at 11.15am when two dacoits opened fire while fleeing the scene at Babar Market.

The witnesses said a 42-year-old woman and her son were at a shop that sells a variety of items for women when two bandits came there and snatched a locket from the woman, and a cellphone and cash from the salesman.

They said the fleeing brigands opened fire when the salesmen, Rashid and Suleman, and the victim woman’s 18-year-old son, Maqsood, tried to catch them.

The wounded were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Rashid succumbed to his wounds and Suleman was admitted in a critical condition.

Hospital sources said Maqsood was discharged after treatment as his injuries were not life-threatening. They said the young man had suffered a grazing leg wound.

The police said the victim was living with his parents in Sector 37-A of Korangi.

The police registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of the shop owner, Mohamed Atif.

A 40-year-old man was shot dead in his home at Toori Bangash Colony in Sector 11-½ of Orangi Town.

Pakistan Bazar police said Nadir Khan, son of Dilbar Khan, was asleep when unknown attackers barged into his house around 4am and sprayed him with bullets.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where sources said the victim had received multiple bullet wounds in his upper torso from a very close range.

The police registered a case against unknown culprits on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Azeem Khan.

The police said the victim hailed from the NWFP and he sold home appliances on instalments. They said the murder could be motivated either by a monetary dispute or tribal enmity.
