Driver, robber killed

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, April 29: Two people were killed during highway robbery on Tuesday at Dali Mori on the National Highway near Bhirya town.

Eight highwaymen stopped a Chakwal-bound bus (JV-7465) near Dali Mori at gunpoint while on way from Karachi. Two of the men got into the bus and tried to push the driver out to which he resisted. Those outside the bus opened fire killing driver Afzal Hussain of Chakwal and one of their accomplices.

Cleaner of the bus told reporters that the seven armed men took weapon of their dead companion and escaped.

Bodies were brought to the Rural Health Centre Bhirya town from where the body of bus driver was taken to his village while of the highwayman it was still at the centre.

DPO Zulfiqar Ali Larik said a heavy police contingent were on the lookout of armed men who would be arrested soon.

No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.

SHOPS CLOSED: A mob forced shopkeepers to close their shops in Tharushah on Tuesday after a scuffle between two men. According to detail Fareed Khanzada and Shahnawaz Ujjan were discussing something which turned into a scuffle.

Later on some 150 armed members of Ujjan community reached Tharushah town and opened fire and forcibly got the shops closed.

They also reached the Press Club Tharushah and tried to get it close, as well. Shabbir Soomro, a journalist was beaten up on resistance. He went to police station where the NC was recorded.

District Naib Nazim, Ali Almani reached Tharushah and advised Ujjans not to use force and accompany him so that the matter could be resolved through negotiations but the Ujjans were still at the police station for lodging FIR.

Police arrested six persons including Fareed Khanzada, Pir Bux Rajput, Zohaib Bhan, Mehboob Channa and Ahmed Ali. When contacted, Tharushah police, ASI Yasir Mughal said two persons had been arrested.

Tharushah police told Dawn that people of Ujjan tribes and their supporters were at the police station and Shahnawaz Ujjan was injured and therefore the matter will be dealt on merit.

However, no FIR was lodged till the filing of this report. Protesters warned of a sit-in on the Tharushah-Naushahro Feroze-Kandiaro Road and blocking of road if FIR was not lodged.
