RAWALPINDI, Aug 7: Punjab Governor Lt-Gen (retired) Khalid Maqbool has said that the provincial government would give all help in carrying out various development projects at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU).

Presiding over a meeting of the public sector development projects (PSDP), establishment of centres of excellence and strengthening and upgradation of selective departments at the university here on Tuesday, he said that it was the priority of the government to exploit all resources in enhancing the standard of higher education in the country.

During the meeting presentations were made to the governor about programme strengthening and development projects by the three universities - Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, University of Engineering and Technology Texila and University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi.

The vice-chancellors of the three universities along with their project directors briefed the governor about their development projects in the meeting. The meeting was also attended by all the deans, programme chairpersons and senior faculty members of the FJWU.

Governor Maqbool, who is also chancellor of the FJWU, assured the vice-chancellor of the university of his cooperation in the execution of the future plans of the university. The governor has already approved new projects worth Rs115 million for various projects at the FJWU. Rs48 million have been allocated to procure new and modern equipment for the bio- technology, microbiology and chemistry laboratories while Rs35 million would be spent to build a sports complex with sports hall, volley ball, badminton and basket ball courts. A sub-campus of the FJWU over 200 acre land with a cost of Rs30 million would be established in Sialkot.

The meeting also decided that a school of architecture will be established in the Sujhan Singh Havali campus of the FJWU. The governor also visited the newly constructed Environmental Sciences and Communication Sciences blocks of the University. He visited the campus radio VOW (Voice of Women) and recorded his independent day message due on August 14, which would be the first anniversary of the radio.

THESIS DISPLAY: The impressive and innovative thesis exhibition of the BCA (bachelors of computer arts) was opened on Monday at the Fatima Jinnah Women University.

The students of the programme displayed nearly 200 art pieces full of expression and visualisation while 36 students have participated in the exhibition.

The display is a venture of skills, talent, insight and brilliance of the young artists and will end on August 9. The colourful demonstrations have been made in different areas including graphics designing, photography, paintography, video production, textile and 3D and 2D animation.

In the field of graphics designing, 13 students have done promotional campaigns. Amina Yaseen has done a redesigning campaign for shoes using creative layouts to promote the shoe products.
