KARACHI, May 22: The Pakhtun Action Committee (Loya Jirga) is meeting on Wednesday to review its decision of a three-day strike call from May 25, says a press statement.

It adds that the PAC has been under tremendous pressure from various sections of society to reduce the number of days during which the strike will be observed.

The committee had earlier given a strike call for three days from May 25 to 27 in protest against the May 12 bloodshed, demanding immediate removal of the governor and the adviser to the chief minister on home affairs. “We have convened a meeting of the Loya Jirga on Wednesday morning to review the decision of giving a strike call for three days. The Loya Jirga, which had taken the earlier decision, is the only organisation authorised to make any changes in the strike schedule,” a member of the central committee of the Loya Jirga, Ameer Nawab, told Dawn here on Tuesday night.

He made it clear that a complete strike call was given only for Karachi.

Mr Nawab said that the PAC had received requests from the Karachi Bar Council, Site Association, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and NGOs to cut the number of days.
