ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: President Gen Pervez Musharraf in the series of political consultations with political leaders, had a detailed meeting with veteran Pakhtoon leader and President of National Awami Party Pakistan (NAPP) Mr Ajmal Khattak on Saturday.

During the meeting, the NAPP chief proposed holding of a ‘jirga’ of politicians to prepare a formula for national reconciliation on all national issues.

He said the President’s thinking on national issues particularly Kashmir was very clear, for, he is determined to take along the will of Kashmir committee, Kashmiri people and the people of Pakistan in the solution of Kashmir issue.

Khattak said that the President’s first and foremost attention at the moment was focussed on the issue of withdrawal of troops of Pakistan and India from the borders.

Earlier, both the leaders discussed a host of issues in the two-hour meeting, focussing on the government’s steps on transformation of the country into a modern Islamic state, restoration of democracy, solution of Kashmir issue, Afghanistan situation and the recently introduced electoral reforms.

Ajmal Khattak said that he told the President that the armed forces alone could not tackle all the internal and external disturbances and a national reconciliation was a must for creation of an atmosphere of national understanding among political forces of the country.

The veteran politician said the President was endeavouring to transform Pakistan into a modern Islamic welfare state, but this objective could only be achieved through national reconciliation.

The NAPP chief said he welcomed the reforms introduced in the tribal areas but stressed the need for taking tribesmen into confidence in implementation of these reforms.

President of Awami Tehrik, Rasul Bux Palijo called on President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday and discussed with him various issues, including steps initiated by the government for socio-economic development of the country and process of political reforms, adds PPI.
