SANGHAR, Aug 5: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that Sindh is the land of Sufis and the people of Sindh do not support Jamaat-i-Islami and other religious extremists.

“They have unanimously decided that they will vote for the success of Haq Parast candidates in the local body elections later this month” he said.

He was addressing public gatherings in Tando Allahyar, Naushahro Feroze, Ghotki and Tando Adam on Friday, says a press release.

Mr Hussain said for the past 57 years the condition of poor and middle class people of Pakistan had remained unchanged and issues had not been resolved because they chose not to struggle for their rights.

“The MQM is the only political party of Pakistan which has emerged from the poor and middle classes”, he said.

He said it had sent representatives of the poor and middle class to be elected as members of parliament not only from Karachi and Hyderabad but also the Sindhi-speaking workers of the MQM.

Mr Hussain told the gatherings that the poor and the middle class people of Sindh were uniting under the banner of MQM.

He said the Sindhis from all walks of life including intellectuals, youth, students, teachers, doctors and writers to come forward as the MQM was their party

The NQM leader warned that terrorist elements had been activated to disturb the peaceful atmosphere during the local body elections in Sindh.

These terrorists had yesterday brutally murdered an MQM worker Mohammad Nasir, he said.

Mr Hussain appealed to the people and MQM workers not to get agitated by the acts of terrorism and remain peaceful.

He said by remaining peaceful we would be able to elect Haqparast candidates who would then solve the issues of the masses.

He instructed the workers to study organizational literature and organize study circles.

He also advised the workers to refrain from bad habits, respect all including elders, teachers and parents.
