Liverpool grab draw

Published October 14, 2001

LIVERPOOL (England), Oct 13: Liverpool snatched a 1-1 draw against English Premier league leaders Leeds United at Anfield Saturday, amid concerns over Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier.

Houllier was taken to hospital as a precuation at halftime after suffering from chest pains, Sky Sports reported.

A deflected shot by Australian Harry Kewell in the 27th minute put the visitors deservedly ahead after a bitterly disappointing first-half performance by Liverpool.

But Danny Murphy levelled in the 69th minute, heading into an empty net after a spectacular dipping shot by Robbie Fowler beat Nigel Martyn but hit the crossbar and bounced out.

LEAGE CUP DRAW

Grimsby’s reward for sensationally knocking out holders Liverpool from the League Cup is a fourth-round trip to either Manchester United or Arsenal.

The first division club, who upset Liverpool in a 2-1 win after extra time at Anfield on Tuesday, will be back in the spotlight when the match is played in the week starting Nov 26.

Arsenal meet United for their third-round clash on Nov 7.

Saturday’s draw also produced two more tantalising clashes — premier league leaders Leeds United against 1998 winners Chelsea and a London derby between Fulham and 1999 winners Tottenham Hotspur.
