QUETTA: A child was killed and another five injured in a landmine explosion in Balochistan's troubled Dera Bugti district on Thursday, an official said.

Abdul Hameed, a levies official told Dawn.com that a child was killed and five people including four children were injured in a landmine explosion in Loti area of Dera Bugti district.

“All victims belong to one family,” said Hameed, adding the head of the family and his five children were injured in the landmine blast. He said one of the children, who suffered serious wounds, succumbed to injuries on way to hospital.

The ill-fated family was going in a vehicle when it (vehicle) hit a landmine on the road side, said the levies official. The vehicle was also damaged in the blast.

Levies and frontier corps personnel reached the spot and started investigation into the incident, he added.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Landmine explosions have claimed scores of lives of both civilians and security officials in the area.
